gratitude.

I had to write a letter of appreciation to the person who gave me a financial award toward my education. The letter was to include me. Who I am, what I do. It caused me to think of what it is that is important to me and what I want to continue in my life.
What I got out of it?
I have a lot in life. I have 3 brothers, and one sister. All of them married, each of them either planning for kids, or already have them. I have a huge family. That show they care about me, daily.
I have been raised in a great state, in a great town. This town was, at the time, considered pathetic. I wanted nothing to do with Highlands Ranch. It offered nothing to me. But being here at college, it has shown me that I had a lot offered to me every day.
I'm grateful for the chance to further my education. There are many families that aren't able to support their children enough to allow them to go to college. They are stuck in a rut and have to get the jobs that aren't considered to be awesome. I was lucky enough to be born in a family that was able to support my educational habits and much more.
I'm grateful for the friends and support. I have a lot of people in my life that are quietly rooting me to do great things. Some of the people I am fully aware of their support, while others I may not even know of. But I am grateful either way.
I'm appreciative for the advance in medical care that we have. Our world would be a scary place, in fact...a lost world, if we didn't have the medicine, the hospitals, and doctors that we do have. And even though we aren't able to stop all disease before it causes traumatic experiences, we are still trying, still progressing.

Gratitude isn't something I show all to often. It isn't the easiest thing for me, and doesn't come like this to me ever. But today, it did. And I liked it. Maybe it's time to spell out my gratitude more often, not just one month out of the twelve. Not just one dedicated day to it. But as much as possible.
